How to light up your kitchen

Choosing the correct lighting for your kitchen may be daunting but it really isn’t that difficult. Kitchens are much more than a food prep area, most cases it is the heart of the house. Similar to the saying “to win someones heart is through their stomach” right?

Creating the right lighting in the kitchen is essential to having one where it is task friendly so you don’t chop off your fingers but also not too bright where it doesn’t seem like a factory

In most cases try to aim to having at least 3 out of 4 of the following lights in your kitchen

  1. Pendant light. Often called hanging lights  are lights that can be used as the main light source or to add extra lighting to the kitchen island pr countertop/bartop where you sit to have your breakfast.

2.  Track Light.Track lights are lights that are in a line connected together. They can be used as the main light source of the kitchen or underneath the cabinets in a smaller version to add more lighting to the counter

3.Ceiling lighting. Same concept as the pendant lighting but not hanging.

4.  Recessed Light. These are ceiling fixtures that are downward shining from a hollow opening  in the ceiling where the fixture is placed.  These can be used to add in extra lighting in corners of the kitchen or smaller fixtures that are underneath the cabinets

We recommend to mix these four light fixtures to your kitchen to make it homey and bright enough to cook without over salting. The only thing to remember is do not over pendant light your room as it will create the image of a smaller space. Blocking views or creating borders around them!

Till next time,
